Characters with the Most LEGO Minifigures

Most Common LEGO Minifigures

LEGO seems to produce endless minifigures of the main protagonists and antagonists of its most popular themes. Every year we're greeted with yet more Batmen or Harry Potters.

To see just how many different minifigures each of the most popular characters has, I ran some queries on the Brickelo database. I excluded subtle variants of the same minifigure, which is where LEGO included the same minifigure in certain sets but used two slightly different parts. Examples include a different colour hairpiece or a head with different colour eyebrows. In most cases, these alternative parts are commonly found in other minifigures.

There were some borderline cases, such as minifigures presenting characters in disguise. Examples include minifigures showing Harry, Ron, and Hermione after they're taken a polyjuice potion and appear as someone else. I decided to count these as they included doubled sided heads, with one side showing the real character.

I've also used "minifigure" in the strictest sense of the word. The official definition excludes minidolls, such as those found in Friends.

So now you know the rules, below is a table of the 15 most common characters in LEGO form.

As you can see, Batman tops the list by some margin. The first minifigure of the caped crusader was introduced in 2005 and new versions of the superhero have been released every year since 2011. His most prolific minifigure year was 2017, which was due to the release of The LEGO Batman Movie, where we got a Collectible Minifigure series featuring many "alternative" Batmans

Second is Harry Potter, who first appeared in a set in 2001, with new versions released steadily over the years. However, there were some years where no Harrys were released, which were 2006, 2008, and 2009.

Rounding out the podium places is Lloyd Garmadon, who is a much newer LEGO character than Batman and Harry. He first appeared in 2012, one year after the NINJAGO theme first launched. The other four ninjas are close behind and fill positions 4 to 7.

Luke Skywalker is the most common Star Wars character in 8th place, while Iron Man appears most frequently in Marvel sets and ranks in 10th.
